Welcome to Defcon Workshops We specialise in creative artistic workshops for today's up-and-coming youth. In the modern world children are under immense pressure to perform academically. More artistically-minded children are often overlooked in the current system, suffering growing frustration and diminished self-esteem. We provide the opportunity for young people to learn and create whilst encouraging them to think about their futures, jobs, health issues and welfare. Not every child is an academic - Life is a vocation - We offer alternative avenues. We are Insured, PAT Tested and CRB checked. You can find examples of music workshops and further documentation at www.myspace.com/defconworkshops. Or go to http://www.creative-choices.co.uk/server.php?show=nav.601 to listen to our latest podcast. ***Check out this link, of young people from a Defcon project promoting non-smoking*** ***BREAKING NEWS*** Defcon Workshops, Music 4 Children & TASK Brasil Youth music makers going halfway round the world to finish tracks? "It is estimated that a child a day is killed on the streets of Rio De Janeiro where the life expectancy of abandoned street children is no more than 16 years old" Under the wing of UK Charity - Music4children - Defcon Workshops are off to Rio De Janeiro for a unique venture promoting the cause of abandoned street children in Brazil. Through the process of making music the venture will unite British youngsters with children rescued by the UK charity Task Brasil from the streets of Rio de Janeiro. For many years Defcon Workshops? Nathaniel Sobhee, Tom Basista, Aina Westlye and Tom Yardley have been helping hard-to-reach young people in the UK to create music - encouraging, self development, expression, communication, confidence building and enhancing creativity. Over the past five years they have worked with the NHS, Barnardo?s and the Princes Trust (for whom Nathaniel is an Ambassador) as well as schools in London and the South East. The Team are flying to Brazil for a two week inter-cultural exchange, facilitating a series of workshops to make music with the young people who have been rescued by Task Brasil from a life on the streets of Rio de Janeiro. These children are now safe and living in Task Brasil homes, where they are provided with access to medical care, education and vocational training. Using mobile studio equipment, Brazilian youngsters will be bringing their own musical interpretations by completing tracks already started by children from schools and youth groups in England. And on the team?s return to England British children will in turn complete tracks set down by the Brazilians. With the voluntary assistance of some top professional producers these tracks will be mixed to produce a world class music CD, the proceeds of which will be shared between the two charitable organisations. It is hoped that the whole experience can be documented in a film that would also benefit the projects. Our intention is to raise awareness for both the children on the streets of Rio and the disadvantaged young people of the UK. As well as instilling confidence, teamwork and having fun, this venture will provide them with resources to raise funds for their projects through their own creative work. So far £8000 has been pledged, £3000 of which is a direct and immediate donation to Task Brasil. We are looking to raise a further £3000.
